Understanding Clients, Client Types, and Type Qualifiers

GENERAL USER

When you add clients to SmartVault, you must specify both a client type and a type qualifier. These options help you organize your client database effectively and determine how SmartVault structures folders for each client.

Client Types

SmartVault offers two client types that determine the automatic folder structure created for each client:

  • Entity (Organization): Choose this for businesses, organizations, estates, or any non-individual client
  • Person: Select this for individual clients.

Type Qualifiers

Type qualifiers provide additional categorization within each client type, allowing for more detailed organization of your client base.

Examples of Type Qualifiers

  • For Entity clients:
    • Corporate
    • S-Corp
    • Partnership
    • LLC
    • Estate
  • For Person clients:
    • Individual
    • Sole Proprietor

Why This Matters

Using client types and type qualifiers effectively helps you:

  • Keep your client database well-organized
  • Quickly identify client categories
  • Maintain consistent folder structures
  • Streamline your workflow with proper categorization
